Insurance Companies have Rules for Lower Premiums and ADT Home Alarms Meet Them

Insurance companies have rules for qualifying for lower premiums and ADT home alarms meet them all. The insurance company gives lower premiums for the family that has security protection, but it must be protection that really works and they know that ADT home security does. Their bottom line is how much they might have to pay out on claims and with this level of home alarms they know that there are few claims and they are lower than the family that does not have this kind of protection.

ADT home security has a record of protecting families from burglaries, smoke and fire that other home alarms cannot match.

  • ADT home security is a monitored home alarm that means it can call for help, at not one monitoring center like other home security monitored systems, but to any of the five ADT monitoring centers.
  • ADT alarm monitoring includes other features like carbon monoxide monitoring, medical monitoring and water leak monitoring. Other home alarms do not have the features that can be added to this home security system to make it a total protection home alarm.
  • ADT home alarms have technology that makes it possible to use a cell phone to make the call to the monitoring center when the alarm is triggered. Other monitored home alarms do not have this technology, which means when the home phone is disabled, so is the call to the monitoring center.

What Insurance Companies Know

What fact insurance companies know is the residential burglary statistics and part of the family’s policy premiums is based on this.

  • They know that a house with no protection is three times more likely to be broken into.
  • They know that there is an estimated burglary that occurs every 12.7 seconds somewhere in the United States, which means no neighborhood is safe from these criminals.
  • They know at this rate of burglaries occurring that every one in six houses is burglarized.
  • The insurance company knows most burglaries occur during the day, at a rate of 54.7 percent and most occur between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. when the burglar knows that the family is at work and school, giving them ample time to steal what they want.
  • They know that the average burglary can result in $2,000 and up in lost property. This is cash, jewelry, electronics, guns and any other items that they can sell fast. The electronics include laptops, MP players, digital cameras and GPS systems.
  • They know that locking the doors and windows does not keep burglars out, with burglars using the front door 34 percent, the back door 22 percent and the first floor windows 23 percent.
  • The insurance company knows that statistics show burglars take approximately 60 seconds to break-in and then spend between 8 and 12 minutes inside of the house.

The insurance company knows that the call going from the ADT home security system is crucial, because it is what keeps families from having burglary claims. The burglar knows home alarms and they know that with the ability to use a cell phone that they have no chance of stopping the call. The other thing the insurance company knows is that this call and the alert that the fire department gets in seconds after the ADT home alarm has been triggered means that the fire is extinguished quickly and there is less damage, which means a lower insurance claim.

  1. Timothy says:

The complete ADT system seems as though it’s monitoring capabilities are completely automated – right down to financial consulting (in the sense that it qualifies home owners for discounted insurance rates). I watched a local news report that covered how a single mother of three kids was kicked out of her condemned home – which got that way because it was burned severely in a fire. I can’t help but think how much better her family might be if she’d had an ADT system.

  2. Whitney says:

I think this is a great idea and insurance companies should have done this a long time ago. But that would mean they would have to give up some of their money and I don’t think that is possible for some of them. Is ADT working with the insurance companies so that anytime someone buys a system they can automatically get the deduction on their insurance?

  3. Faith says:

You mentioned that insurance companies will give you a discount if the system you install really works and they know that ADT really works. How do they know if the system you install works or not if it isn’t ADT? Or will they just not give you the discount unless it is an ADT system period? Thank you for this information it is very helpful and I will have to see about getting one.

  4. Kenneth says:

How does an insurance company decide if a home security system is good enough that they will cover you with lower premiums? It says in the article that the system has to work and that ADT has be proven to work. But there are other systems out there that have been proven too do people get lower premiums with them as well? This is really great information.

  5. James says:

Insurance premiums have been way to high for way to long and I think that anything you can do to get those lower on your house is fantastic. I think anything you can do to lower them on your car is great too like that little recorder that progressive gives you so your premiums go down for ever so many miles of safe driving. In today’s economy every little bit helps.

  6. Sam says:

It is about time that the insurance companies acknowledged the fact that people are doing other things in order to try and keep their homes safe and reward them for this by giving them a discount on their premiums. This was a very interesting blog and I appreciate the information very much. I will have to look into getting a system because the savings in the long run will be worth it.

  7. Nancy says:

I can’t believe that the insurance companies have finally seen it from our point of view and decided if we were going to take it upon ourselves to protect our house then maybe we shouldn’t have to double up and pay extremely high premiums as well. This is welcome news and a long time coming I think. I hope they will continue to think along these lines and help us save even more.

  8. Sarah says:

I work for an insurance company that shall remain nameless but I just wanted to let everyone out there know that because we are doing this with our customers our business has actually increased. People that are leaving other insurance companies because they won’t offer a discount are coming to us. If you are another insurance company reading this, think twice about it.

  9. Lillian says:

My insurance company hasn’t taken this approach yet and I really don’t want to change insurance companies at this time so how do I get them to adopt this policy so I don’t have to. I have been with them for going on 10 years do you think if I told them I was leaving if they didn’t it would make a difference?

  10. Ronald says:

I wonder if there is any information regarding what sort of discounts or subsidies exist with home insurance contracts and how exactly does that affect the rates. I have a friend of the family who owns many precious jewels and artifacts from her travels around the world. Although she has a safe, she had her insurance company appraise her valuables. I think that is a good idea regardless of whether you have an ADT or other system.

  11. John says:

I am so glad to hear that the insurance companies are finally doing this. Is this for all insurance companies or are there just a select few that are doing this right now? If that is the case I would suggest to the rest of the insurance companies that they get on board as soon as possible because they will start losing customers to the companies that are doing it.

  12. Karen says:

You can bet after reading this article that I’ll be getting in touch with my insurance agent to see what their plans are as far as this goes and make sure they understand that if they don’t include this discount for security systems that I will take my business to a company that is going to. Thank you for the information and if I have any problems getting them on board I’ll let you know.
